Hyvä and Microsoft Dynamics 365 BC

Why Magento and Hyvä are the perfect match for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

We're joining forces with NVision and Tys to tackle one of the most critical—and often overlooked—aspects of modern eCommerce: ERP integrations, with a special focus on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

In this article, we'll show you how to build an effective eCommerce technology stack that gets the best out of what you already have—without the time and cost of disruptive platform migrations.

We'll explain a future-proof approach to eCommerce architecture that avoids vendor lock-in, empowers your operations, and positions your business for sustainable growth.

Whether you're a merchant looking to scale or an agency building commerce solutions for clients, this is about making smarter technology choices that actually work in practice.

Beyond his role as an ISV, he has worked extensively on both the agency side and the VAR side, giving him a practical understanding of how ERP partners, web agencies, and end-customers each approach integration challenges—and where friction typically arises.

ERP integrations are no longer optional

Why Microsoft Dynamics and Magento are such a strong combination for Magento agencies, modern commerce projects are no longer just about storefronts — they are about building scalable, long-term architecture.

Some ERP terminology and context upfront

This article is about Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Almost every company of meaningful scale runs an ERP system at the core of its operations. Some of the more well-known names in this area are Sage (UK/NA), SAP (large enterprises), Oracle (mid-large), and Microsoft Dynamics (SME). These are global vendors, but each country typically also has its local heroes.

ERP systems are not accounting systems with extra features. In addition to finance, they typically cover areas such as inventory management, warehousing, sales, purchasing, and manufacturing—bringing all of these processes together in a single operational backbone. In other words, the ERP is the most critical system in the organisation: the system that runs the entire core business.

Although this article is written by NVision, an e-commerce integration specialist focused on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (formerly Dynamics NAV or Navision), most of the information in the first paragraph also applies to other ERPs.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is particularly popular among B2B’s in Scandinavia, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain and France, and is rapidly gaining traction in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. These are also the types of customers for whom Magento is a strong and proven fit.

Finally, when you see Microsoft Dynamics, Business Central, or BC mentioned in this article, they all refer to the same product: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. (Yes, it’s a long name, which explains the extra-large “Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business… what!?” sign at our Meet Magento booth.)

A single source of truth across ERP and eCommerce

Most eCommerce friction isn’t a “website problem”. It’s a data problem. When ERP and storefront drift apart, you typically see:

  • Wrong inventory → Overselling and split shipments, disrupting buyer planning, breaking commitments, and eroding trust.
  • Wrong pricing → Margin erosion and abandoned carts caused by inconsistent pricing, again leading to loss of trust.
  • Disconnected order flows → Operational overhead, delayed fulfilment, and increased return rates.
  • Customer-specific agreements not reflected online → Stalled B2B adoption and continued reliance on manual ordering.

An ERP system, such as SAP or Microsoft Dynamics, serves as an operational record-keeping system in the areas of finance, sales, purchasing, and operations. So, when eCommerce becomes a major revenue channel, the storefront needs to behave as an extension of that operational truth.

Integration isn’t just “syncing orders”

A serious ERP – ecommerce integration covers at least:

  • Product & assortment control (including variants, units of measure, configurations, attributes, lifecycle management)
  • Inventory & availability logic (including location or store-specific inventory, Multi Source Inventory - MSI, lead times, backorder options, allocation rules if applicable)
  • Pricing (customer-specific pricing, tier prices, discounts, currencies)
  • Customers & organisations (sub-accounts, customer attributes)
  • Orders & fulfilment (statuses, quotes, shipments, invoices, credit memos, Warehouse Management System -WMS)

If your integration doesn’t reliably solve these issues, you’ll end up hiring people to patch the gap.

Why Magento is such a strong fit for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, formerly known as NAV or Navision, is a widely adopted cloud ERP for small and mid-sized organisations (SME).

Magento, Hyvä and Adobe Commerce are often used in this market for one core reason: it’s built for complex commerce—multi-store, multi-currency, complex catalogues, and extensibility.

One platform that supports B2B and B2C

Magento, Hyvä and Adobe Commerce, optionally extended with a few additional modules, can perfectly support both B2B and B2C business models. Including customer-specific catalogues, pricing and enhanced order flows.

That matters a lot for Business Central customers, because among those are many B2B companies that also run:

  • Direct-to-consumer sites
  • Dealer self-service portals
  • Multi-brand storefronts
  • Country-specific stores with local tax/shipping rules

Magento’s model fits this reality well. Business Central remains the operational brain and data layer, while Magento becomes the experience layer.

Where Hyvä fits in

Magento enables complex commerce, but Hyvä makes it practical to deliver. Hyvä focuses on high-performance storefronts with a more efficient developer experience, helping merchants and agencies move faster and deliver storefronts of the highest quality with the best UX. Together, it’s the ultimate weapon for eCommerce.

In practice, the “winning stack” looks like this:

  • Magento or Adobe Commerce → Commerce engine (multi-store, catalogue, checkout)
  • Hyvä → Modern storefront delivery (performance-focused frontend approach)
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central → Operational truth (catalogue data, pricing, inventory, customer terms, order and logistical flows)
  • BC integration → makes the whole stack work like one system!

Why NVision helps Magento agencies win against traditional legacy alternatives

Vendors such as Sana Commerce, Dynamic Commerce AG, and others have long positioned themselves around a clear message: an all-in-one ecommerce solution tightly integrated with the ERP.

The promise was simple. One platform. One vendor. One integration story.

For a long time, that worked. When eCommerce maturity was lower, many organisations were primarily focused on being online. A functional storefront, directly connected to the ERP, was often sufficient.

That reality has changed.

Why the all-in-one promise no longer works

Today’s merchants, both B2C and B2B, expect far more than a basic webshop. Their requirements now include:

  • High-performance storefronts
  • Modern and evolving user experiences (based on ERP data)
  • Rapid innovation cycles
  • A broad and active ecosystem of extensions (composable commerce), tools, and partners

This is where tightly coupled, all-in-one platforms face growing limitations.

Solutions like Sana and DC develop and maintain their entire commerce stack themselves, including the storefront layer. That is a significant engineering effort for any organisation. In contrast, the Magento, Adobe, and Hyvä ecosystem is driven by a global community of vendors, agencies, and technology partners — continuously advancing frontend performance, UX patterns, integrations, and tooling.

Where Magento agencies gain a decisive advantage

This is where NVision comes in, providing a flexible, proven Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Magento integration that fully supports both B2B and B2C business models—enabling agencies to propose the best solutions confidently.

Together we can offer:

  • The operational strength of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as the system of record.
  • The flexibility, scalability, and ecosystem reach of Magento and Hyvä on the commerce side.

This combination allows agencies to focus on what they do best: creating scalable, future-proof commerce solutions — without worry about ERP.

At the same time, this approach enables customers to avoid the full vendor lock-in, move faster, and build solutions that can actually evolve with their business.
